Reimagine Higher Education: Solutions for Transformative Change

Through collaborative co-design and innovative solutions, the University Design Institute supports higher education institutions and systems envision bold new paths forward, creating lasting impact for students communities, and beyond.

At the University Design Institute, our work centers around convening key stakeholders to share ideas and visualize a more impactful future for higher education institutions and systems, and the impact on our world.

In our Reimagine transformation phase, UDI supports institutions to redefine their purpose and impact in their communities, identify strategic priorities and create visionary roadmaps for success. Whether that means reimagining academic models, student experiences or institutional impact, we work side-by-side with all of the relevant stakeholders to co-design solutions that inspire growth, resilience and long-term value.

UDI's Programs and Services

The University Design Institute's work is structured around three transformation phases with tailored programs and services for our partners: Reimagine, Redesign and Rebuild.

In the Reimagine phase, we help institutions strengthen their vision for transformation by bringing together diverse voices and perspectives. Through inclusive gatherings with key stakeholders —such as policymakers, industry partners, funders, students, and higher education leaders — we facilitate idea-sharing and envision a more impactful and innovative future for higher education.

Discovery Workshops

Discovery Workshops are collaborative sessions designed to help higher education institutions and systems envision innovative pathways for the future. In partnership with institutions, these workshops bring together a carefully selected group of UDI's experts and thought leaders to explore trends, innovations, and unique perspectives across the higher education landscape. Through structured activities that foster both creativity and collaboration, participants engage in divergent and convergent thinking, gaining valuable insights and building a sense of community.

Institutions that complete a Discovery Workshop leave with a clear understanding of the steps needed to drive meaningful impact for learners, stakeholders, and their broader community. The outcomes include actionable insights into opportunities and challenges, a stronger grasp of the current ecosystem, and a foundation for identifying future areas of focus to inspire transformational change.

Rapid Prototyping Sessions

Rapid Prototyping sessions offer a fast, effective way to share innovative ideas around a transformation effort, learn best practices, and gather valuable insights and feedback from stakeholders and UDI's higher education experts. These sessions focus on building just enough to test an idea, streamlining the design process into manageable, actionable steps.

Customizable around any of UDI’s six design imperatives for higher education transformation, Rapid Prototyping delivers comprehensive reports that empower participants to quickly implement solutions and drive progress on their transformation journey.
