2023 E-Learning Ghana Conference

eLearning Ghana Conference

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a leading center of higher learning in Ghana.  Since its founding in 1951, it has focused on advancing knowledge in science and technology through creating an environment for undertaking relevant research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training and community engagement to improve the quality of life.

As part of KNUST’s efforts, the university organized the first ever E-Learning Ghana Conference on July 6-7, 2023.  The theme of the conference was "Education without Borders: Digitalizing to improve accessibility, quality, inclusivity and sustainability”  This provided a platform for capacity building, advocacy, discussing, and planning e-learning related activities. Hundreds of educators, administrators, technical staff, students, policymakers, and investors participated in the exploration of four subthemes:

  1. Accessibility: Learning in and through digital technologies
  2. Quality: Institutional reforms for effective e-learning
  3. Inclusivity: Social transformations of technologies and implications for learning
  4. Sustainability: Emerging Business and Delivery Models for E-Learning for Changing Times

KNUST invited Dale P. Johnson, Director of Digital Innovation at UDI to keynote the conference.  His speech focused on designing student-centric approaches to digitally enabled learning and teaching in Africa.  The honor or delivering a keynote was a product of his ongoing collaboration with their leaders as part of the Mastercard Foundation e-Learning Initiative.  While in Kumasi, he met with Vice-Chancellor Dr. Rita Akosua Dickson, Dr. Eric Appau Asante, director of the  E-Learning Centre, and many others to discuss localized solutions to their technology transformation.  Building on the strong relationship between KNUST and ASU, UDI has been able to help them develop the capacity they need to continue growing their e-learning initiatives.
