Our Impact

Our goal is impact. We aim to reach and connect global change makers through capacity building efforts to drive long-term, sustainable transformation in higher education. We have engaged with over 150 institutions. The diversity of our engagements is reflected in the examples below.

Overcoming barriers to collaboration in Brazil

18 Brazilian universities engaged with UDI for best practices to overcome barriers to institutional collaboration and innovation.  Sessions included interdisciplinary collaboration, higher education innovative models, multi-university partnerships, and digital innovation. Leaders gained implementation strategies and connectivity with fellow Brazilian institutions.

“The Era of Active Learning” in Mexico

Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG) is working with UDI to advance digital learning at scale.  6,000 professors, representing UdeG’s 17 academic units/campuses, were trained to teach digitally, using a foundational course designed by UDI Fellow, Dr. Rafael Rangel. The course titled ”The Era of Active Learning” was chosen due to its focus on improving learning outcomes using technology.

Building an American University in Ukraine

UDI provided design support via a series of rapid prototyping sessions to advance a greenfield project in Kyiv with the goal of establishing an American-style, private university affiliated with ASU and managed by Cintana. Co-creation sessions involved subject matter and regional experts who worked together to produce a series of innovative ideas and strategies for the new university.

At Arizona State University, we are forging a new role for higher education in the world by engaging with people and issues locally, nationally and internationally. For the past 20 years, we have had a relentless focus on new designs and innovative solutions for higher education. UDI draws from the assets, expertise and solutions from the university ranked #1 in innovation in the U.S. Examples of our impact are reflected below.

Developing a New Online Learning Platform in Mexico

UDI is helping The Sonora State University (UES) in Mexico to develop a new online learning platform to meet unprecedented demand for higher education. UDI leveraged ASU’s expertise in developing scalable, low-cost online learning platforms and connected UES with a private sector partner to assist UES in the creation of its new Virtual University to reach degree-seeking students and develop an online extension system for adult learners.

Empowering Malawian Universities for Social Impact

With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), ASU is partnering with five universities in Malawi to transform higher education to increase system wide access, affordability and social and economic impact.

Developing University Leadership for Clean Energy in Pakistan

Through the U.S.–Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Energy program (USPCAS-E), a partnership between ASU and Pakistan’s National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad and the University of Engineering and Technology in Peshawar, ASU applies its expertise in higher education, university design, applied research, and energy to help Pakistan realize energy security and economic growth through its universities.
