Our story
A note from the Managing Director...
The University Design Institute (UDI) was established in 2019 to move the needle in global higher education. We recognize that traditional models are inadequate in the face of rapid and unprecedented social, technological, and economic changes. Successful 21st century higher education needs bold, new designs; leapfrogging ideas; systemic approaches; and a relentless focus on innovation.
The COVID-19 pandemic has both challenged and inspired UDI's work and priorities since our origin. Projects in digital transformation, fiscal resource diversification, and teaching and learning became especially urgent because of the pressures facing leaders, institutions and systems amid lockdowns and continuously changing work and living conditions. Collaborating with innovation experts within and beyond the unique living laboratory of Arizona State University, UDI was able to respond quickly and practically. In the first three years, UDI's projects and programs have enhanced the potential for universities to deploy a design-based approach to creating new and innovative outcomes around the world.
Our journey is just beginning. Join us. Change is possible when we work together.
