In May 2025, Arizona State University celebrated the graduation of the twelfth cohort of the ASU Leadership Academy - an initiative dedicated to fostering leadership and innovation across the ASU Enterprise. Designed to equip faculty and staff with the tools to lead transformative change, the year-long program reflects the university’s ongoing investment in cultivating future-ready leaders.

This cohort brought together 34 faculty and staff members from 24 academic units and colleges across ASU. Through a series of in-person workshops and leadership activities, participants developed leadership competencies, advanced high-impact projects, and built a collaborative network committed to shaping ASU’s future.

In Leadership Academy, I found a rare and meaningful space to grow alongside leaders from across ASU. The experience challenged me to think about my contributions and invite others into the work I do. It also reminded me of what it means to be a compassionate human for my colleagues and the community, as we shape the future together.

Yi-Chun Sunny KuoAssistant Dean, Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts

The core of the training consists of three 2-day off-campus workshops, supplemented by leadership seminars throughout the academic year. LA participants completed a 360° assessment and worked with their peer coaching group to support their individual leadership growth. The participants engaged with nine expert speakers, gained insights from eight alumni panelists, and were guided by five professional facilitators.

The relationships I developed with my peer leadership group helped clarify the aspects of my work I value the most, and the team-focused training during our second workshop in particular helped further develop related skills, such that I have a better sense of my own career. I have already put these insights to work and they will continue to help guide my work at ASU for years to come.

The individual leadership projects, developed in collaboration with a nominator or supervisor, allow participants to put their learning into action. Each cohort member uses the project as a hands-on opportunity to address real needs within their units, fostering innovation, collaboration, and tangible impact.
